A River-pool egy látványközpontú, címválasztásában is játékos, időszaki térinstalláció a Szentendrei Duna-ágban. A helyszínre készült, nagykiterjedésű, a spontán elhelyezkedés érzetét keltő, levegősen könnyed alkotás első látásra inkább hívogató játéka a szemnek, mintsem nehéz feladványokat tartalmazó szellemi tréning.

A méretes biliárdgolyókká alakított hajózási ütközőbóják a víz mozgásának engedve hol lágyan ringatóznak, hol pedig egy elhaladó hajó keltette hullámmozgást követnek a folyó felszínén. Azonban a biliárdban megszokottaktól eltérően, itt a külső hatás nem a golyók pozícióját változtatja meg, hanem rögzített helyzetükben maradva az alattuk lévő vízfelület áramlása hozza mozgásba őket.

A helyszín kiválasztásában nem csupán a környezet adottságai, fizikai paraméterei, belváros-közeli fekvése, hanem ezeken túl a partszakasz archeológiája is szerepet kapott.

Az installáció az egykori kikötő helyének közelében került vízre, megjelölve azt a partszakaszt, ahonnan a város egykor kereskedelmi kapcsolatot tartott Európa vízi úton elérhető távoli pontjaival. Innen indult el a híre az akkori Szentendre borászati kultúrájának, kezdő lökést adva a későbbi, sokrétű művészeti örökséget felvirágoztató építészeti és művészeti kultúrának is.

A bóják küllemüket tekintve pontos másolatai a pool-biliárdban használatos golyók színeinek és számozásának. Nem kell hosszan szemlélni őket azonban ahhoz, hogy feltűnjön néhány rendhagyó, szokatlan jelzésű gömb, melyekkel kiegészül a megszokott golyókészlet. Fehér színükkel neutrális különállásukat jelzik mind a teli, mind a csíkos golyócsoporttól, az oldalukon viselt jel pedig a Szentendrén ma már emblematikusan jól ismert Privilegiális Szentendrei Kereskedők Társaságának XVIII. századi jelvénye, három különböző változatban.

E jelkép kiemelt fontosságát az adja, hogy viselőik tevékenységének köszönhetően jött létre az a virágzó kereskedelem és kulturális sokszínűség, amelyet a máig megőrzött barokk városkép is hűen tükröz. Ez a sajátos atmoszférájú környezet fogadta a szentendrei festők több nemzedékét, és nagyrészt ez a látvány tárul ma is az ide érkezők elé.

A sokféleképpen megörökített városkép legismertebbjei közé tartoznak a Duna felőli ábrázolások. A nyári szezonban ezt a látképet kívánja színes gömbjeivel játékosan kiegészíteni a River-pool.

RIVER POOL is a temporary spatial installation in the Szentendre branch of the Danube, with a visual focus, playful also in its title. This airy, lightweight piece is site-specific, quite large-scale, and gives the impression of being spontaneously placed there. At first sight, it is much more of a playful adventure for the eye than an intellectual question for the mind.

The buoys in the form of oversized pool-balls gently rock with the rhythm of the water, or follow the waves of ships passing by on the surface. However, unlike the usual game of pool, these external effects do not shift the position of the balls, but they stay fixed in their position, while the current under the surface sets them in motion.

The archaeology of the riverbank also played a part in the choice of location, together with the characteristics and physical parameters of the environs and the proximity to the town centre.

This installation is located close to the site of the ancient port, which was the centre of trade, and the waterway to reach the distant points of Europe. It played a significant role in making Szentendre’s wine culture famous, as well as giving a boost to the latter flourishing of its architectural and artistic culture.

In terms of appearance, the buoys are precise copies of the colours and numbering of real pool-balls. It doesn’t take long, however, to detect some irregular ones among them, with unusual markings, to complete the customary set. They indicate their neutral autonomy from both the groups of solids and stripes with their white colour. The markings on their sides are three different versions of the 18th century insignia of the Privilegiális Szentendrei Kereskedők Társasága (Society of Privileged Tradesmen of Szentendre), well-known in Szentendre even today.

Those who wore this symbol played a significant role in the flourishing trade and cultural diversity that is still faithfully reflected in the town’s preserved Baroque cityscape. This unique atmosphere welcomed generations of painters, and for the most part, it still greets visitors today.

Among the many variations of the recorded cityscape, among the most familiar are depictions from the Danube. This is exactly the view River-pool aims to playfully complement during the summer season.
